Birds and Flowers of Herman Lake

  • Eagle Bay Hall 4326 Eagle Bay Road Eagle Bay, BC, V0E 1T0 Canada (map)

This event takes us to Herman Lake where we will look and listen for birds and other wildlife. For those unfamiliar with this small lake, it is located a short distance southeast of Eagle Bay.

We will meet at Eagle Bay Hall at 9 a.m. and carpool from there. This will avoid the need to use low-clearance vehicles during our drive to the lake. There is also very limited parking at the lake so fewer vehicles is better. During the week, the area is generally very quiet but on a Sunday we may find other folks visiting.

The outing will start at the Herman Lake government dock at 9:20 a.m. Drivers should be prepared for a 7 km drive from the hall to the lake. The last 2 km of that drive comprises rough gravel.

If desired, those who want an interesting drive can access Herman Lake via White Lake on their own. An SUV or truck would be required from that side. If you take that route, plan to meet us at Herman Lake at approx 9:15 a.m.

Once we complete our viewing at the dock (approximately 1 hr), we will drive around the lake to the private campground where the owners will tour us around their forested property. This should take another 2 hrs.

Bug spray is recommended for the forest walk. Although it may not be needed, it is best to be prepared. Also bring water and a lunch.

The trip is expected to last 3-4 hrs at most.

Trip leader Di Wittner invites participants to her home place afterwards. Bring your own lunch and enjoy more birds from her deck.

Difficulty rating: DR-1 (Easy). Please see our Field Trips page for important information before you join one of our outings.
