Shorebirds of Salmon Arm Bay

  • Salmon Arm Wharf 780 Marine Park Drive Northeast Salmon Arm, BC, V1E 2X1 Canada (map)

If you missed the first shorebird field trip in August or simply want another opportunity to check these birds out, this is your chance. Join local shorebird expert Don Cecile along with Mitch Milgram as they look for shorebirds near the Salmon Arm wharf. Salmon Arm Bay is one of the most important migration stop-overs for shorebirds in the Interior of British Columbia. Shorebirds born in the Arctic will be stopping here to recharge their fat reserves before continuing on to wintering areas as far away as South America!

Meet at 9:00 a.m. at the base of wharf, in Marine Peace Park in Salmon Arm (free parking on Sunday at the Nature Centre). Bring your binoculars and spotting scope if you have one. Several scopes will also be provided.

Difficulty Rating: DR-1 (easy, slow pace on trails, no uphill; possible optional longer extension to Christmas Island)
